Fall Risk

I recently went in for a medical procedure-it was not a big deal; it really wasn’t until the nurse gently lifted my hand to attach an arm band with big yellow letters that spelled “FALL RISK”. I broke out into an unreserved laugh and said, “Are you kidding me?”

I stared at that armband and reality hit me.

I am there, apart from the anesthesia and whatever else she said to make me feel better; I am there. The clock has been ticking as days have turned to months and months to years. It has been ever so subtle because I was preoccupied with my daughter’s wedding and a son graduating, with caring for aging parents and keeping up with technology to successfully fulfill my professional responsibilities.

I HAVE been changing, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually.

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:1-11, “……our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them, and the rock was Christ, NEVERTHELESS, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness…And do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, the people sat down to eat and drink and stood up to play. Nor let us act immorally as some of them did and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord as some of them did and were destroyed by the serpents. Nor grumble as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example and they were written for our instruction upon whom the ends of the ages have come.”

I have a responsibility; we all do, and that is to live as Christ. The Golden Years are not for the older folks; they are for us all, and they begin with the PRESENT. Today is the first day of the rest of my life, the first day of my Golden Years, and it is the same for you. I want my life to be an example of one who lived out what she believed and stood on the Impeccable Promises of His Word.
